Entretenimiento: el caso de Genius y Wii suma nuevos detalles

El caso suma contexto sobre Genius y Wii sin depender solo del titular original.

Gadget-maker almostinventor has built a working proof of concept that turns a physical shelf of Wii games into something that functions like a digital menu, letting users scroll through and select games using a controller.

The build, dubbed the “IRL Homescreen,” uses a projector, a hidden mechanical rail system and a custom UI to bring digital-style navigation to a shelf packed with Wii game boxes.

A laptop handles the custom interface, paired with an ESP32-C3 control board with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to manage the physical movement.

As he scrolls through the shelf, the projector highlights the selected game box, making it glow while the rest sit in shadow, and projects enlarged cover art and startup animations beneath it.

Behind the scenes, a small motor and gear system pushes the selected game box forward, using a design which converts the motor’s spin into the straight pushing motion needed to move the box.

Rather than using cameras or scanning to identify each game, the system relies entirely on pre-programmed positioning, mapping each controller input directly to a fixed slot. Navigation is done with a Wiimote or standard controller, complete with nostalgic Wii menu sound effects.

The build also includes a physical slot-machine-style lever dubbed the “Indecision Lever,” which randomly selects a game at the pull of a handle.

The current version is limited to a single row, but the creator has already shared videos of himself using hand tracking to select games with a wave of his hand, essentially selecting titles “with the force.”

Sony confirmed it will stop making physical PlayStation games entirely from 2028 , making projects like this one an interesting reminder of what physical game collections could look like as the industry pushes further toward a digital-only future.

Esa combinación explica por qué la noticia empezó a circular con fuerza.
