A Harry Potter star says she turned to making videos of brushing her own hair and has already made more money from them than her acting career.
Jessie Cave, a 39-year-old actor and comedian from the UK, played Lavender Brown in the Harry Potter film series beginning with The Half-Blood Prince in 2009.
However, following a string of audition rejections, the actor said she reached "a point of complete desperation" and turned to posting videos of her brushing her own hair to creator-led subscription service OnlyFans in order to raise money.
She couldn't work in a supermarket out of fear of "people shouting Harry Potter spells"
Cave's long hair runs down to her waist, and it is this distinct feature that is the basis for her videos. Her subscribers pay $6 a month for access to her hair-brushing content and, for an additional fee, can receive "paid-for messages".
According to The Times, Cave revealed that she earned back the $15,000 that it cost her for accommodation at the Edinburgh Fringe the previous year in just one day. In the year since she started making content, she said she has "earned more, easily, than my entire acting career".

When discussing other potential avenues of income, Cave said: "I couldn’t go and, say, work in a supermarket because I can’t afford the childcare, and also I don’t want people shouting Harry Potter spells at me as I work at Tesco."
Cave also revealed that, because of her presence on the platform, which is usually associated with adult content, she was not booked for a fan convention.
"They explained it was because it’s a ‘family show'", she said. "This was baffling to me as some actors who do conventions (most actors, actually) have done TV and films in which they’ve done sex scenes and nudity. I’m just playing with my hair!"
